Natural Solutions Habitat Tool
This is what underpins Wilder Carbon. It provides a conservative minimum estimate for the amount of carbon storage that could be achieved by restoring any UK terrestrial habitat.
How it Works
One of Wilder Carbon’s trusted deliverers sees that a piece of marginal land is on the market. We want to know what its carbon potential might be if native habitat regeneration were to be allowed to take place.
We use the Habitat Tool’s stored best available data on vegetation and soil carbon storage and sequestration to work out the carbon value of the land in its current degraded state.
We then model how this will change if the area is bought under conservation management.
The result is a conservative minimum estimate of the restored land’s carbon potential.
The Habitat Tool also uses the existing DEFRA Biodiversity Net Gain metric to predict the biodiversity uplift that will be achieved by the same scheme.
The Natural Solutions Habitat Tool can be used to inform decisions for investors, landowners, farmers, conservation agencies, corporates and public bodies.
Our Wilder Carbon advisors are trained to use the calculator and can work with you to develop multi-benefit projects carbon + projects to combat the nature and climate crises.
